IPSJ – Rule of Law & Independent Judiciary

IPSJ - Mae Sot Workshop

Upholding Justice, Accountability, and Judicial Independence

A strong and independent judiciary is essential for upholding justice, protecting human rights, and ensuring accountability in any democratic society. IPSJ works to strengthen the rule of law in Myanmar by enhancing legal knowledge, promoting judicial independence, and supporting justice-sector reform during a period of profound political transition. Through targeted training, policy research, and technical advisory support, IPSJ engages legal professionals, civil society actors, activists, and emerging governance institutions on constitutional law, administrative justice, judicial reform, and international legal standards. We also conduct participatory research in liberated and contested areas to assess barriers to judicial independence, access to justice, and the interaction between customary and formal legal systems. By combining expert analysis with grassroots engagement, IPSJ supports justice institutions that balance legal pluralism with universal rights—laying the foundations for a fair, accessible, and rights-based judicial system within a federal framework.
